WORLD WAR I VETERAN
John William Aiken was the son of William and Christine (Benson) Aiken. He was born June 21, 1890 in Salem, South Dakota.
Enlisted May 2, 1917 in Webster, South Dakota. Served in 59th Infantry. Discharged on August 8, 1919 at Camp Dodge, Iowa with the rank of Private.
Mr. Aiken had been a resident of Washington state since 1923 and had resided in the towns of Seattle, Port Orchard, and Hansville between 1936 and 1949. He applied for admission to the Washington Veterans Home with his wife Ruth. They had married October 16, 1927. In 1951 they were living in Bremerton. He had a step-son, Carl Gafvert, and son, Ernest G. Aiken.
Mr. Allen died at 3:40 A.M. on March 20, 1952 at the Home Hospital. He was 61 years of age and is buried in Veterans' Home Cemetery in Retsil. His widow, Ruth, remarried in 1962 to Charles W. Brown, another member of the Veterans Home. Her burial place is unknown.
