David Shipley Sr. was born Sept. 2, 1949, in Nampa, Idaho, to Dwight and Helen (Zook) Shipley. His parents preceded him in death.

In 1994, he married Mary Shipley in Jewell. She survives, residing in Jewell.

During the Vietnam era, he served as an Military Police Officer in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Shipley was retired.

He was a Southern Baptist.

Family members said his nickname was Number 6. He enjoyed spending time with his family and helping others, and loved his pets as though they were his children. He loved to cook, and took his secret recipe for homemade bread with him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law, David Shipley Jr. and his wife, Kiara, of Portland, David and Anne Kreutzer of Jewell, Garland and Christina Shipley of Vernonia and Robert Kreutzer of Manzanita; two daughters, Michelle Shipley of Tigard and Veronica Hamilton of Montana; 16 grandchildren; three sisters, Sharon Aronhalt and Eva Moore of Forest Grove and Mary Kohler of Hillsboro; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dee and Kenneth Shipley.

A celebration of life was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan 7, at Nehalem Valley Community Church, 80803 Oregon Highway 103 in Seaside. Over one hundred family and friends were in attendance.

David Shipley Sr. was cremated at Caldwell's Luce-Layton Mortuary in Astoria, Oregon.

Gravesite Details

Majority of David Sr.'s ashes were scattered over his favorite campsite near Jewell, Oregon on Sept.1, 2012 with his closest friends and family present. A trivial amount were interred with his memorial plaque at Willamette Nat'l Cemetery.
