Lessie Grimes Broom went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 21, 2007.

Lessie was born September 24, 1907 in Tyler County, TX along with her twin brother Lester Seborn Grimes, to parents Seborn and Safronia Elizabeth Menyard Grimes. She was raised in Magnolia Springs, TX, where she graduated from Brooklyn Central High School. Her first job was at the Magnolia Springs Post Office.

On July 4, 1930 Lessie met and married Henry B. Broom and they spent the next 56 years together.

Lessie started Baytown's first porcelain Arts Guild, she also taught Porcelain Arts at the Baytown Civic Center. She taught porcelain art "China Painting" for 38 years in Baytown and Dayton. She even taught classes at several national conventions held around the United States. Her specialty flowers were Forget-me-nots and Roses. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Lessie has spent her last years living at Swan Manor in Baytown, where she was a daily Skipbo and weekly Bingo player. She called Swan Manor her home and she loved all who worked and cared for her. A special "Thank You" to Jeanette and Jackie and all the staff at Swan Manor for their dedication. We wish to express our sincere appreciation to the Faith Community Hospice for the great work they did.

Lessie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters-in-law, Willie and Lois Grimes, Ruben and Helen Grimes; fraternal twin Lester and Beatrice Grimes; brother, Guy Grimes; sister and brother-in-law, Lela and Cameron Futch; nephew and niece-in-law, Walter and Bernice Grimes and nephew-in-law, Maurice Wallingford; brother-in-law, Willard Broom and niece Nalenia Mae Venson.

She is survived by sister-in-law, Pauline Broom, nieces, Wanda Wallingford and Maxine Finch; nephew, R. J. Grimes, Kenneth Broom, and Harold Broom; great nieces and nephews, Steve Grimes and wife Tammy, Libby Laubach and husband Steve, Deborah Troha and husband Glenn, Keith Grimes and wife Tammy, Ginger Elmore and husband James, Whit Finch, David Finch, Tammy Stevenson, Andy Grimes, Helen Grimes, John Grimes, Karen Lockridge, Beau Broom, Marisa Broom, Cole Broom and a host of other family members and friends.

At Lessie's request the family will host a visitation at Navarre Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 24, 2007 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Special music will be provided by her great great nephew David Troha. There will be a graveside memorial service for family members only at Davis Cemetery in East Texas.

Pallbearers will be great great nephews, Shane and Selby Grimes, Josh and Cody Grimes, Chrise Forse, and David Troha. Great great nieces Brandy and Stephanie Grimes and Tiffany Niehaus will sing Amazing Grace at the graveside memorial service.

Those wanting to make donations in memory of Lessie can do so at the Diabetes Foundation, Parkinson Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
