Bertha Louise "Martha" Wende Joppien was born on November 2, 1891 in Germany. W/O William Emile Joppien, they were married on December 24, 1917 in Hamburg, Germany. M/O Liselotte Joppien (Charles Stelling) and Ralph William Joppien (Irene Elsie Bock) The Joppiens immigrated to the USA aboard the "OHIO" steamship around 1926. They lived most of their lives in Paramus, NJ. Mrs. Joppien passed away at the Hackensack Hospital.

German-Born Paramus Resident, 52 Noted Birthday Tuesday.
Mrs. Martha Joppien of 25 East Fairview Terrace, Paramus, died yesterday afternoon at the Hackensack Hospital after a long illness. Mrs. Joppien who was born in Germany, observed her fifty-second birthday on Tuesday. She came to the United States 18 years ago and had been a resident of Paramus for 10 years.
She is survived by her husband, William, a daughter Mrs. Charles D. Stelling, both of Paramus, a son Ralph of the U.S. Navy, somewhere on the high seas and a grandaughter Caroline Stelling.
Funeral servises will be held at her home tomorrow at 2:30. The Rev. Harold H. Klein, pastor of the First Reformed Church of Saddle River Township will officiate. Burial will be at Cedar Lawn Cemetery.

Joppien - On November 3rd, 1941, Martha beloved wife of William and adored mother of Lottie Stelling and Ralph Joppien. Funeral services at her late-residence, 25 Fairview Terrace, Paramus, N.J. on Friday afternoon at 2:30 - Interment - Cedar Lawn Cemetery.
