"Ruth E. Acridge of rural Yates Center, died Thursday, Jan. 4 at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita. She was 83. She was born March 5, 1917 in Osage County, the daughter of Harry E. and Elida (Gleason) Stout. She was a farmer and a stockman.

She grew up and attended schools in Osage County, moving to Woodson County in the 1930s. She enjoyed pets and flowers and taking care of the livestock.

She belonged to a bowling league in Yates Center for many years until her health prevented it. She was a member of the Kansas Old time Fiddlers and Pickers of Yates Center.

Ruth married J. E. (Joe) Acridge on 28 Aug 1936*. He died in 1986.

Survivors include one daughter, Joan Drake of Yates Center; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granchild. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two children and one brother.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8 at the Siria Cemetery northwest of Yates Center. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Fund in care of Campbell Funeral Home, PO Box 188, Yates Center, KS 66783."
