David Walker Abshire was the son of Isaac Abshire and 2nd wife Ellen White. He went to California during the gold excitement in 1849, from his home in Tennessee, but came back in 1850 and located in Fremont County, Iowa.

David married Susan Palmer, daughter of Hiram Palmer and Nellie Hampton, on 31 Oct 1862 in Fremont County, Iowa. David became a prominent farmer in Fremont County.

Susan and David had 9 children: Alivra/Elvira, Eathan/Ethan, Francis S, Augusta, Minnie, Orlando "Lando", John, Isaac, and Myrtle. Alvira/Elvira and John died at a young age.

David died in 1888 in Sidney at the age of 62 years 11 months 14 days. Susan Palmer Abshire remained in Sidney but by 1910 was living in Whatcom County, Washington, where at least three of their children lived. She died in 1930 at the age of 89 years.
