Funeral services for Coffeen resident Geneva J. Greenwood, former cook at the Coffeen School, were held Saturday, June 27, at Toberman-Dean Funeral Home, Coffeen. Burial was at Glendale Cemetery, Fillmore. The Rev. Mike Bates, pastor of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Coffeen, and the Rev.Wayne Pierce of Greenville officiated.

Mrs. Greenwood, 95 died at 7:55 a.m. Tuesday, June 23,2009, at Hillsboro Area Hospital.

A 1930 graduate of Fillmore High School, she was born Sept. 28,1913, in South Fillmore, daughter of the late Bert and Emma (Gamble) Wilson. She lived in the Coffeen area most of her adult life and managed the telephone office in Coffeen in the early 1950s.

She married Lawrence Bess in 1931, and he died in 1939. She married Fred Greenwood in 1968, and he died in 1989.

Mrs. Greenwood leaves one daughter, Beverly Sue (husband Bill) Jones of Coffeen; stepchildren, Russell Greenwood of Hillsboro, Ronald Greenwood of Oregon and Mona Taylor of Chatham; stepdaughter-in-law Bev. Hickey of Coffeen; and two special nieces, Melbourine(Bess) Blackburn and Bernadine(Bess) Huber.

Also surviving are six grandchildren, Jeanne(husband Mike) Holden of Witt, Deanne Jones and Julie Jones of Hillsboro, Sherrie Jones White and Lisa (husband John) Casterline of Florida, and Steve (wife Jackie) Jones of Taylor Springs; several stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were one son in infancy; one stepson, Reggie Greenwood; one niece, Phyllis(Bess)White; one sister, Reva (Wilson) Bess and one brother, Ellis Wilson.

Memorials may be directed to the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Coffeen.
