He was retired from the Elkins School System and was a member of the Hazel Valley Community Church. He loved music and was known to many as "The Fiddler" he and his wife sang many religous songs at local events over the years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Oma Long Hattabaugh and one son, Jerry Dean Hattabaugh.
Survivors include five sons, Junior Hattabaugh of Chelan, Wash., Roger Hattabaugh and Burl Hattabaugh both of Hazel Valley, Jim Hattabaugh of Fort Smith, and Randy Hattabaugh of Lowell; three daughters, Georgia Waites of Huntsville, Ala., Dorthy Miller of Hazel Valley, and Ellen Clough of Grove,Ok.;one sister, Bonnie Nobles of Erick, Ok.; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
