Capt David Johnson is so far of unknown parentage. He probably moved from Connecticut to the new mountain town of Wardsborough, later known as Dover, Windham, Vermont. When Wardsborough separated into two districts, South and North, in 1788, David Johnson was named selectman and town moderator for Dover. He served as town clerk of Dover from 1789-1796. His brother, Abner Johnson, was town clerk of Chesterfield, NH.
