Funeral services for Josephine Hayley Barbee, age 85, of New Chapel Hill, will be held 10 a.m. Monday at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral chapel with Rev. Bob Waldman and Brother Larry Taylor officiating. Burial will be at Bascom Cemetery. Mrs. Barbee died May 8, 2008, in a Whitehouse nursing home.

She was born March 20, 1923, in Tyler to the late Joseph D. and Lizzie Mae Hayley, and was a lifelong resident of Tyler and New Chapel Hill. Mrs. Barbee retired from the Smith County Clerk office where she was a recording clerk for Tax and Land Titles, and was a member of Bascom United Methodist Church. Mrs. Barbee was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, and will be missed by her family and all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Barbee after 52 years of marriage; daughter, Louise A. Jones; granddaughter, Valerie Jones; one brother and three sisters.

She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law; Stephen and Ruth Barbee of Maryland, Rodney E. and Saundra Barbee of Lindale; daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Doyle Perry of Tyler; brother, Charles Hayley of Tyler; and sister, Ann Luzzie of Oklahoma; two brothers-in-law, Herman Homer and Bob Holden; grandchildren, Billy D. Jones, Matthew A. Jones and wife Christina, all of South Carolina, Rodney E. Barbee II, Brad Williams and wife Shelly, Travis Williams and wife Stephanie, all of Tyler, John S. Barbee and wife Tammy of Virginia, Mindy Barbee Shadow and husband Steven of Houston, Michelle Williams Narlo and husband Joseph of Austin; stepgrandson, Justin R. Cannon and wife Missy of Henderson; stepgranddaughter, Sara K. Cannon of Tyler; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Brad Williams, Travis Williams, Joe Narlo, John Barbee, Rodney Barbee II and Steven Shadow.
