Leo W. Dragon, Sr., 83, of Southbridge Rd., died Monday, July 20th, in the Meadows of Leicester, after an illness.
His wife, Rita E. (Lefebvre) Dragon, died in 2000. He leaves two sons: Leo W. Dragon, Jr. and his wife Betty of Charlton and Scot D. Dragon and his wife Sandra of Woodstock; a sister, Viola Napierata of Webster; a grandson, Lonnie Dragon of San Diego, CA and a great granddaughter, Alexis Leigh Dragon of San Diego, CA. He was predeceased by two brothers: Edgar J. "Bob" Dragon, Jr. and Victor Dragon. He was born in Webster, the son of Edgar J. and Albina Marie (Alaire) Dragon. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts.
Leo drove a tractor trailer truck for the American Optical Co. in Southbridge for many years, and later was a tractor trailer owner-operator before driving for Hyde Manufacturing in Southbridge, retiring in 1999. He was a long time member of the Teamsters Local 170. He was a member of the Elks Club of Southbridge-Webster, a member of the Leonide J. Lemire Post 6055 of the VFW in Southbridge and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Southbridge. Leo was a long time drummer with his country music band the Silver Bells.
His funeral will be held on Saturday, July 25th, from the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge with a Mass at 9:00 a.m in St. Stephen's Church, 130 Old Turnpike Rd. (Rt. 197), Quinebaug, CT. Burial will be in New Notre Dame Cemetery, Southbridge. Calling hours in the funeral home will be held on Friday, July 24th, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
