William L. Adams the son of Ezekiel and Mary
Hickok Adams was born at Plymouth, N.H. At
the age of 3, the Adams family leaving their
residence at Plymouth, arrived at Concord, N.Y
on the 28th day of 1817, Concord being near
the small town of Boston, N.Y. The Adams's
Abt. 1840, Ezekiel and his brother-in-law,
Thaddaus Hickok, a brick maker, built a brick house on Ezekiel's property, which is still standing to this day.
William attended the local common schools
and grew to manhood. The year of 1842 he
married Sophrona L. Burt and were the
parents of three children, namely, Mary,
Martha and John Quincy. John died young.
The year of 1849, William married, Maria
M. Hatch at Boston, N.Y. Maria was born on
Nov. 28, 1828 at Boston, the dau. of Edward
and Margaret Alger Hatch.
Four of William and Maria's children were
born at Boston, namely, John, Margaret,
Ezekiel and Nelson H. Adams.
The year of 1861 William and Maria removed
to, Lincoln, Logan County, IL., where he
engaged in the farming business, with his
son-in-law, Mr. Hodgden. The business was
named, "Adams & Hodgden," farmers, stock-
raisers and milk dealers. At the time they
were the only establishment in the township
supplying Lincoln City with milk. They
were also extensive cattle-raisers.
After many years at his profession, Mr.
Adams retired and moved into the city of
Lincoln. His son Nelson H. Adams lived
across the street from William.
