THE PASSING OF MRS. ALVIRA COX
Mrs. Alvira Cox departed this life last Tuesday after a lingering illness of a couple of years, during which time she suffered intensely at times.
Mrs. Cox was born in Florence, Neb., then known as Winter Quarters, February 10, 1848. Her parents lived there four months and recrossed the Missouri river to within a few miles of Council Bluffs where they lived five years, going from there to New Harrison county where the balance of her childhood was spent. With her parents she came to Utah is 1854. She taught school in Salt Lake, Provo and this city. In 1873 she was married to Frederick W. Cox and has raised a family of five children who survive her, the Misses Jean and Allie and Roy Cox of this city, Howard of San Francisco and Bruce of Wallowa, Oregon, all of whom will attend the funeral tomorrow at 2 o'clock.
Mrs. Cox has been an active worker in all the women's organizations, never losing sight of the fact that her first duty was that of a mother to her children. Her loss will be felt by the community.
