Birth: 1824

Death: Aug. 27, 1892

NOTE DEATH DATE PER CEMETERY AND CIVIL WAR BURIAL RECORDS VS WIDOW'S PENSION CLAIM AND 1885 CENSUS APPEAR TO BE IN CONFLICT..DEATH YEAR MAYBE 1882 INSTEAD OF 1892..SEE NOTES BELOW:

Josiah Jacob Bailey born between 1819-1824 in Pennsylvania (Per Email from Bill Bailey, born 1824, Per Iowa Cemetery Records age 73 b-1819; All census records except 1870 seem to support born 1824-1825..FURTHER RESEARCH NEEDED ON BIRTH AS WELL AS DEATH YEAR), resident of Hillsboro, Cedar Twsp, Van Buren, IA died August 27, 1892 and buried at Spencer Cemetery per the Iowa Civil War Soldier Burial Records.

HOWEVER...Note that this DEATH DATE SEEMS TO BE IN ERROR...Josiah Jacob Bailey did serve in the 37th Iowa Infantry Company C as noted below...Claimed Disability Pension Dec 4 1869 Application 151,219 Certificate 178,959....Wife Rosannah M (Gill) Bailey claimed widow Pension Nov (or Mar) 28, 1883 Application 302,318 and Certificate 419,068 and she is noted as a widow in the IA 1885 Census Records...She then moved family to Kansas and died and daughter Minnie Bailey filed Minor Pension for her younger siblings Dec 9 1897 from Kansas Application 667,090 but no certificate recorded/found.

Enlisted 27 Oct 1862 Co C 37th Iowa Infantry, Mustered Out 4/30/1863 St. Louis MO with disability discharge. Member Perry A Newell GAR Post 232. Invalid Disability claimed Dec 4, 1869 Application 151,219 Certificate 178,959 (see notes above).

Married Rosanna Matilda Gill November 15, 1849 in Lee County Iowa. They had 10 known children: Oliver, Eleanora, Mary, William, Emma, Flora, Josiah Willis, Minnie M, Eva V, and Lawrence H.

HOPING THAT THE GRAVESTONE PHOTO will shed some light on the CONFLICT OF DEATH YEAR in the Iowa Civil War Soldier Burial Records...POSSIBLE that the family, before moving to Kansas filed for military burial...TO BE RESEARCHED FURTHER.
