From the Greene County Daily World: Erman P. Bailey, 98, of Jasonville, formerly of Clay City passed away May 27, 2009 at the Shakamak Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Jasonville.
He was born July 30, 1910 to James T. and Ora Etta Duncan Bailey on a farm south of Clay City. He lived on the family farm most all of his life. At age 85 he moved to an apartment at the Shakamak Good Samaritan Retirement Center and later resided at the nursing center there.
He was a farmer all his life and he also worked at Freeman Foods in Worthington. He also worked for a time as a carpenter.
Erman always helped in maintaining the Duncan Cemetery and served as a trustee of the cemetery as well. Keeping the cemetery in good condition was very important to him.
In 1996 he married Harriett Inkelbrandt Bailey. She died sadly only four months later in 1997. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Estil Bailey and Coy Bailey; two sisters, Mrs. Zelphia Miller and Mrs. Faye Brothers.
Survivors include a nephew, Kenneth Miller (Marjorie) of Coal City; and four nieces, Velma Goshorn of Linton, Deloris Megenhardt (David) of Coal City, Opal Stantz (Fred) of Coal City, and Edrie Ruth Corbin of Clay City; several 14 great nieces and nephews; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home in Clay City with his great-nephew, Larry Megenhardt officiating. Burial will follow at Duncan Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday from noon to 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
