Composer, conductor. Born Nathan Lang Van Cleave. Also known as Norman Van Cleave.

Studied music in New York City with Joseph Schillinger. For many years he worked in radio, as a staff arranger for Paul Whiteman, for Andre Kostelanetz, and for CBS Radio.

In 1933, he married Doris Blumenfeld, a Broadway chorus girl and the child of vaudeville actors.

In 1945, he and his wife moved to Los Angeles to pursue his musical career. In the 1960s, he composed and/or conducted music for at least seven {Perry Mason} episodes. In addition, he worked on many episodes of {The Twilight Zone}, where he pioneered the use of the theremin in television scores.
