Mrs. Abernethy Killed
Car Accident Takes Life of Good Woman
Last Friday, while on her way to visit friends in Tennessee, with her husband and Miss Harrison, Mrs. M. L.(Ella) Abernethy was killed in a car accident near Summerland, Tennessee. The party left early in the morning, with Mr. Aubrey Gregory and his family in another car. Mr. Abernethy had been at the wheel most of the day, but later in the afternoon Miss Harrison took charge because she knew the country. It seems that while rounding a curve at a pretty lively pace Mrs. Abernethy became excited and grabbed the steering wheel and wrecked the car. Mrs. Abernethy was crushed and so seriously injured internally that she lived only about an hour and a half. Miss Harrison was seriously hurt and at last report was not considered out of danger.
Mr. Abernethy, who was alone on the back seat, escaped with only minor hurts. Mrs. Abernethy was one of our best women, always smiling, always ready to help others, always read to do her part whenever duty called.
Her remains were brought here Saturday night and laid to rest in the I. O. O. F. Cemetery Sunday afternoon, after funeral services at the Baptist Church conducted by Rev. W. O. Blount, and at the grave by the Eastern Star, of which order she was a charter member.
