Son of Major and Mrs. James Allan; he was one of eight children, four of whom came to Canada. Mr. Allan arrived in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on April 1, 1906.
Mr. Allan was very proud of his hometown, Vulcan, for which he served on its council for 26 years; first as a councillor, and then as mayor (1940) for 16 years.
On January 3, 1918 he married Eva Maude Graves (daughter of Captain and Mrs. Emerson F. Graves from Cambridge, Nova Scotia) in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
