Thelma I. Hunt, 88, of Iola died Thursday, Sept. 18, at Windsor Place in Iola.
She was born Dec. 25, 1914, in Chanute, the daughter of Elmer L and Alice F. Shipley Hunt. She started school in Oklahoma and then attended school in Humboldt and Chanute.
In 1938, she moved to Topeka where she worked for Pelletiers Department Store for 33 years. She returned to Iola to make her home in 1981.
She was a former member of the Veterans for Foreign Wars Auxilliary in Topeka and member of the First Assembly of God Church in Iola.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Vera Hunt, of Iola, and Mary Lou Byers, Manhattan; and by a great-nephew, Michael W. Byers, Serverna Park, Md.
A brother, Lewis Hunt, died earlier.
Family and friends will gather at 11 a.m. Saturday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapels to leave for graveside services at 11:30 at Highland Cemetery. The Rev. Jason Pickering will officiate.
