Gordon Murray Ensley, 88, of Colony died Sunday, June 29, 2008, at Anderson County Long Term Care Facility in Garnett.
He was born Oct. 15, 1919, in Colony, the son of William Joseph and Nellie (Murray) Ensley. He grew up in the Colony area. He was graduated from Colony High School in 1937. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from April 1945 to July 1946.
On Dec. 25, 1940, he was married to Ruth Maxine Swender in Kincaid.
He was a founding member of Community Church of Colony, a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a member of the Lions Club.
His enjoyed construction and seeing things grow such as crops and cattle.
After serving in the Army, he briefly worked with McAdam Construction in Moran before he operated his business, Gordon M. Ensley Construction, from 1948 to 1960. He then sold the business and worked in construction management with Murry Limestone in Centerville. Following that, he worked for 20 years with Neosho Construction consisting of railroad construction, building the Keystone Reservoir, Oologah Dam and Broken Bow Dam, all in Oklahoma.
He is survived by his wife of the home; a son, Gordon Lawrence and his wife, Pauline, Lakeview, Ore.; two daughters, Brenda Thexton and her husband, Richard, Stella, Mo., and Susan Mills and her husband, James, Arkansas City; a brother, Tom and hid wife, Maxine, Colony; a sister, Doris Hobelman, Colony; 15 grandchildren; and 55 great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Marita McDiffett, and two sisters, Leota Wynn and Wilma Jean Roush, died earlier.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Colony. Burial will follow in the Colony Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Colony funeral home
