Colonel William Noel Amis Sr, an early American aviator who knew Jimmy Doolittle, among others, and flew in the Army Air Corps. He was sent to the Philippines in 1939 and on the Island of Corregidor when the Japanese took it in 1942. He was then sent to the notorious Mukden prison camp in Manchuria in 1944, repatriated about 1945. He retired from the Army in 1947.
