BATAVIA Patrick Sampier, 100, died peacefully Friday, June 22, 2012, at his daughter and son-in-law's home in Batavia.
Pat was born April 6, 1912, in Lexington, Okla., the son of Catherine and Patrick Edward Sampier. His father died seven months before he was born, and Pat grew up, along with his brother, in a small hotel that his mother owned and operated in Wanette, Okla.
In 1934, Pat married Zella Cornell in Oklahoma City, Okla. They enjoyed a wonderful 72 years together until Zella's death in 2006. They lived in Walla Walla, Wash., for 61 years before moving to Batavia six years ago to live with their daughter, Caroll, and son-in-law, George Harris. ill Industries. He was a member of the board of directors for 13 years, half of which time he spent as chairman.
After his retirement, Pat and Zella enjoyed many years of traveling in their motor home, fishing, looking for and polishing rocks and spending time with family and friends. They enjoyed playing cards and did so weekly with one couple for over 60 years. After moving to Batavia to be with family, Pat enjoyed reading from his large collection of Louis L'Amour books, attending church and senior adult Bible study, and he still was delighted in visiting with family and friends. He was very social and never met a stranger.
Pat is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Caroll and George Harris; a granddaughter, Pamela Harris, and great-granddaughter, Madison Harris, all of Batavia; a grandson, Brian Harris (Darla), and great-grandchildren, James Harris (Briana), Brandy Woody (Alex), Ashley Jones (Stephen), Jessica Harris and Wilna Harris; and great-great-granddaughter,
An electrician by training, he retired in 1967 as communication specialist and chief electrical inspector for the city of Walla Walla. During his years in Walla Walla, Pat was closely associated with Goodw Lily Harris.
A celebration of his life will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 28, at First Baptist Church, 2300 South St., Geneva. Burial will be at Blue Mountain Memorial Gardens, College Place, Wash.
