U.S. Veteran Rev. Harold Richard Hendrickson, age 85 of Bolivar, passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2009 in Bolivar.
He was born in Bolivar, Missouri on August 22, 1924 the son of Fred Hendrickson and Leola (Graham) Hendrickson.
Harold was a graduate of Bolivar High School and was a U. S. Army Veteran before the Korean Conflict. Harold was saved as a young man and was a life long member of Mount Gilead Methodist Church. In 2000, Harold received the Bolivar High School "Hall Of Fame" Award of which he was very proud.
Harold served as a United Methodist Church minister serving several area churches. Some of those included, Bethel, Brighton, Pleasant Hope, New Bethel, Weaubleau, Fairview and Mount Gilead. His ministry covered a span of over 50 years. One thing that Harold never ran out of was a supply of his hugs. No matter where Harold met you, he had a smile and a hug to share. Often, the greeting included a nickname and a joke or story.
Harold and Ann lived on a farm southeast of Bolivar for 62 years. They milked cows for approximately 35 years. During part of this time they also raised beef cattle. In 1977, Harold built the new house and the family moved from the nearby original homestead. Three new grandchildren were born as the new home was being built.
The pastime that Harold really enjoyed was boating and skiing. He was always willing to take someone to the lake to teach them to ski. When it cam to teaching others to do what he enjoyed, Harold had the patience of Jobe. He wouldn't let his students give up until they were successful.
In Harold's years as a minister, he touched lives in numerous ways. Whether it was guidance to a new beginning, joining hands in marriage, encouragement through illness, or the comfort for all at the end of a loved ones life here on earth, Harold was there.
