This is my grandfather. His name was Andreas Eckl, but they changed his name at Ellis Island, NY when he was processed through.
Andrew Eckel, 71, 634 West Water Street, died Thursday (January 27, 1977) at St. James Hospital. He had been ill three years and seriously ill three months. Mr. Eckel was born March 25, 1905, at Tannesberg, Bavaria, Germany, a son of Michael and Margaret Eckel.
He came to the United States December 24, 1924. For nearly 40 years he was a tailor in Pontiac. He was married to Irene Scurlock. He was a member of the Central Christian Church, the Pontiac Sportsman's Club and the Pontiac Moose Lodge.
Surviving are his wife; four sons,
Andrew II, Clyde and William, Pontiac; and Robert, Harvard; a daughter, Peggy Jones, Pontiac; a brother, Karl, Bavaria; 17 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Three sisters and two brothers preceded him in death. Memorials to American Cancer Society.
