On July 21, 1958 he and Esther Gorham were married in Chamal, Tamaulipas Mexico.

With his brother, Wade, he co-owned an orange orchard that contained about 1,800 trees. The orchard was near an area in the Valley of Chamal known as 'La Puerta Palmal'. Palmal refers to an area which is largely covered by palm trees; which we'd call a 'palm-bottom'.
Because of conflicts between him, his brother and the boys of another family in Chamal which raged on even into their adult years, Nolen was eventually ambushed and killed in Sept. 1971.
