LESTER FREDRICK ABBEY, 86, of Kiowa died Monday at a Simla nursing home. He was a rancher and farmer most of his life. During World War II, Mr. Abbey worked at Remington Arms and was a mail carrier in the Elbert County area.
Services were conducted Thursday at St. Mark Presbyterian Church (USA), Kiowa, with the Rev. Munn E. Hinds Jr. officiating. Burial was at Elizabeth Cemetery, Elizabeth. Andrews Caldwell Gibson Funeral Home, 407 Jerry St., Castle Rock, was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Abbey was born Feb. 7, 1903, in Union City, Okla., to Fredrick and Fannie (Dickinson) Abbey. He and his family moved to a ranch east of Kiowa when he was 11. Mr. Abbey was a member of St. Mark Presbyterian Church (USA).
He was married Dec. 12, 1927, to Faye Dunker, who survives.
Mr. Abbey also is survived by two sons, Darrel of Kiowa and Keith of Aurora; a daughter, La Vonne Maul of Kiowa; a sister, Alice Farmer of Hanford, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Wallace, Carl and Arthur; and two sisters, Ethel May Abbey and Lena Fitzpatrick.
