Barbara Jean passed away March 20, 2012, in Rio Rancho, N.M. She was the only child of Stanley E. and Hilda Creech Campbell of Johnstown. Survived by daughter, Christina L. Ham-Gray, and husband, Todd, Rio Rancho, N.M.; son, Timothy C. Barnhart, Portland, Ore.; and grandchildren, Michael D. Ham, Erin M. Ham, Christopher C. Barnhart and Edward T. Barnhart. Ms. Barnhart was a graduate of Westmont High School, and then attended Marion Jr. College. She completed her college education at Augustana College with a bachelor's degree in music. She went on to attend Juilliard School of Music in New York City, then later graduated from Union Theological Seminary School of Sacred Music, with a MSM in music. She also earned another master's degree in music education from Columbia University. She was invited to become a member of Delta Kappa Gamma National Honors Society for women educators. While in New York City, she sang professionally at Riverside Church and Park Avenue Presbyterian Church. Her teaching career began at The Grier School for Girls near Tyrone. After her marriage to Clifford C. Barnhart (divorced in 1974) she returned to Johnstown and resumed teaching and choir directing in local churches. Her longest tenure was at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church. She taught in Richland School District for 26 years, having received recognition for "outstanding contributions" to the Elementary Music Program. She retired to Oak Island, N.C., where she directed the choir at St. Peter's Lutheran Church and became a member of St. Phillip's Episcopal Church. She also designed and built her home in Oak Island and greatly enjoyed traveling the world. Interment of cremated remains will take place at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, Ebensburg.
