Mr. and Mrs. Earl Brown were notified last week by the War Department that their son, Sgt. John E. Brown of the U.S. Marines, was killed in battle action against the Japanese on the Island of Iwo Jima on February 19, 1945. He enlisted in the Marines in March of 1941 and had been overseas since January, 1944, seeing action in the campaigns of the Marshall Islands, Saipan and Tinian. Born on February 5, 1920, Sgt. Brown attended the Marlette High School and graduated in 1939. Prior to his enlistment he had worked on his parents farm. He is survived by his parents, five brothers and three sisters.
