Obituary of Mrs. Maggie Olegan Dunlap Allen

Gulfport, MS ~ Mrs. Maggie Olegan Dunlap Allen was died March 16, 2013.
After 99 years, Maggie peacefully departed this life in the presence of her daughter on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at their home in Destin, Florida.
She was christened at St. Mark United Methodist Church in Gulfport. She held many positions and served on many church boards. She also enjoyed singing in the choirs, teaching Sunday School, and visiting the sick on Sundays at nursing homes.
She graduated from Thirty-Third Avenue High School in Gulfport in 1933 where she was a studious scholar and a talented gymnast who participated in acrobatic competitions.
After graduating from Rust College, Maggie completed a Master's Degree in Education from New York University and later pursued doctoral studies at the University of Southern Mississippi.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Jason Wallace Allen.
Maggie Allen is survived by her cherished daughter, Jean (Robert White) Demas White, Destin, Fla.; three stepdaughters, Dr. Crystal White, Alison White, both of Atlanta, Carmen White, New Orleans; dear friend/daughter Joy Taylor, Chicago; dear friend/son Mack Demas; four goddaughters, Dr. Portia Harris, Hattiesburg, MS, Dr. Shunda Irons-Brown, Lansdale, PA, Debra Barton, Memphis, TN, Gena Grayson, Cleveland, OH; three sisters-in-law, Mary Allen, Chicago, Vera Brumfield, Gary, IN, Nita Dillon (Nathaniel) Oxnard, CA; nieces, nephews and a host of relatives, students and friends.
Funeral: 12 Noon, Saturday, March 23, 2013, St. Mark United Methodist Church. Visitation: 11 a.m. Interment: Pine Ridge Cemetery.
