Obituary of Garland Samuel Alford, Sr.
(November 9, 1922 ~ February 7, 2013)
Biloxi, MS ~ Garland Samuel Alford, Sr., age 90, passed away February 7, 2013. He was born in Pike County, MS to Samuel Newton and Ida Ellzey Alford; but lived most of his life in Biloxi.
Garland attended Biloxi High School before serving his country. First, in the Army National Guard during World War II, then as a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, and as a civil electronics technician at Keesler Air Force Base. He played for years at the old Plaza Club in West Biloxi; then with groups "Yesteryears" and "The Stardusters" at various venues across the coast.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother Rannie Alford; and his beloved wife of 57 years, Doris Amerson Alford. He is survived by his five children: Garland "Butch" Alford, Jr., Charles and Kathy Alford, Karen and Greg Broussard, Vince Alford, and Patricia and Chuck Mauer; seventeen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 11, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home. Friends may visit two hours prior. Interment will follow at Southern Memorial Park.
