In about 1835 when just reaching her womanhood she obeyed her savior and was baptized and united with the Baptist Church, and 14 years later she united with the Christain Church where she continued her faith until the time of her death. She often spoke of being ready to die and being ready to meet her saviour.
Only a few hours before her death, she spoke of the funeral services, expressing the desire to have the services at the Christain Church in Worth, Mo., she having worshiped in this church when it stood 2 miles southeast of town and was known as Shiloh.
In 1838, when her oldest son James was 6 months old, she and her husband and his brother, Moses Barnes, came from Kentucky and settled near what is now known as Hall's Station near St. Joseph, Mo. The men drove a team of oxen and Mrs. Barnes came on horseback and carried the baby. About 14 years later they moved near what is now Denver, Missouri.
