Albert Campbell was born at Saint Marys,Perth County, Ontario, Canada. He came to North Dakota in 1892, hauled grain for some time for the Cooper Brothers and received his citizenship in 1900. In 1902, he purchased farmland, the northwest corner of Section 23, Tyrol Township, Griggs County, North Dakota from Mr. and Mrs. Danba of NY, paying $1,120.00 for the farm. In 1902, he married Nettie Haley, who was born in 1881, in Kansas. Nettie was the sister of Mrs Will (Rosa) Laplant. Her father was Abraham Haley came from England to Canada, and them moved to Kansas. In 1914 their farmhouse burned down and they built a "modern" house with Delco lights and plumbing. They had a son Cecil born in 1904. Albert was murdered in October, 1929 by a neighbor (John Slabber) who had borrowed a shotgun to shoot Albert and then turned himself into the sheriff. That same night, Mr. Slaber tried unsuccessfully to commit sucide by slitting his own throat with a diner knife. Mr Slabber was found guilty of murder and spent the rest of his life in prison. His wife Nettie died in November, 1945.
