Ernest Spiros Angelos - Ernest Spiros Angelos, passed away peacefully among his family at Delaware County Memorial Hospital on October 17, 2012, at age 89. Ernest "Ernie" was born and raised in West Philadelphia and attended West Philadelphia High School.
He was an army combat engineer veteran of the first wave in the Normandy Invasion and saw action throughout the War including at the Battle of the Bulge. Ernie was a prominent competitive pistol shooter, once holding 3 national pistol records and was awarded the Distinguished Pistol Shot medal from the Department of Civilian Marksmanship.
Ernie was a continual charitable benefactor to the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Upper Darby and a founding member of the VFW Eleftheria Post 6633.
Survivors: A past owner of the Franklin Diner, lifelong avid New York Yankee fan and devoted family man, Ernie is survived and eternally loved by his wife of 64 years S. Billie Angelos; son The Honorable Spiros E. Angelos; daughter Betsy Kavadias; daughter-in-lawBeth Ann Angelos; son-in-law Manos Kavadias; grandchildren Ernie, Nikki, Andrea, Athan and Michael; brother John Angelos; sister Pepina Mangos; sister-in-law Ann Dragas; and beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Monday October 22, 2012 at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 229 Powell Lane, Upper Darby, PA. Viewing will be 6 to 9 PM Sunday at the Church as well as 9:30 to 10:30 AM on Monday. Interment at Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill, PA.
