James Cameron began his working life as a printer in his brother's office. In 1827, he began editing the POLITICAL SENTINEL. At the beginning of the Civil War, he commanded the 79th Regiment New York Volunteer Infantry. He was killed at the battle of First Bull Run, Virginia, and was the brother of Simon Cameron, who was then Secretary of War.
