"Death of Wallace L Bardeen

"Passes Away Late Saturday Afternoon - Personal Notes
Late Saturday afternoon occurred the death of Wallace L. Bardeen, one of Hamilton's foremost citizens and professional men. Dr. Bardeen has not been well since he suffered from an attack of the "flu" about a year ago. Although he attended to his business, he was hardly able to do so. Less than a week ago he was taken with a severe cold which quickly developed pneumonia, resulting fatally in only a few hours. Wallace L. Bardeen was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Americus V. Bardeen and was born in Hamilton Dec. 22, 1866. He attended the Hamilton high school during his childhood and later entered Colgate academy. In 1886 he entered Colgate university, and after two years in the class of 1890 he entered the Boston Dental college, graduating in 1890. The same year he entered the dental office of his father and they worked together for many years, till the death of the elder Bardeen left Wallace to continue alone. Dr. Bardeen was a dentist of ability, and gathered around him an ever-widening circle of patients. His kind sympathetic nature, applied in his business, has helped him to make good. Dr. Bardeen had a keen active mind and a retentive memory which served him well, not only in his business, but in all of his connections as a citizen, as a club member and as a member of Hamilton Lodge, No. 120, F. & A. M. He was the accepted wit of the village. He had that wonderful gift of seeing the funny side of things and being able to tell it so others could see the ludicrous side. His excellent memory furnished an overflowing fountain of fun and information. At all lodge and club meetings his gift brought him into prominence. At the last annual meeting of Hamilton Lodge, No. 120, F. & A. M. he acted as toastmaster, a position he had held times without number. He was active In every community interest, and although he had decided opinions, he was not radical. Hamilton has lost many able citizens in the last decade and the passing of Dr.Bardeen surely can be counted as a great loss to Hamilton. Funeral services were held at his late home Tuesday afternoon and burial was made in Woodlawn cemetery.
