James was a Justice of The Peace in 1805 in the Cunningham Georgia Milita District. James and Mary were members of Thyatira Presbyterian Church,Jackson Co. Ga.,along with his mother Elizabeth,his brother Joseph and his family, and the Hemphill.
James and Mary moved to Rome Floyd Co., Ga.
James and Mary moved near to French Camp,Miss. ,for when Olney Presbyterian was organized in 1849,they were among the first members.

This was inscribed on his Tombstone. The deceased was long a member of the Presbyterian Church.As a husband devoted;as a friend,ever kind and True; In life he
exhibited all the grace of a Christian;in death his redeemed spirit returned to God who gave it.
