The following was extracted from the Friday, May 10, 1907, issue of The McCook Tribune:
Accidentally Shot Himself Fatally.
Wednesday, Alvin, the 19 year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Acheson of the Driftwood, accidentally shot himself with a rifle, dying shortly afterwards. He and his father were fixing fence on the farm. Seeing a coyote he started to get over the fence with the rifle in hand. The weapon was in some unknown manner discharged, the bullet entering his side. Medical skill was summoned from Culbertson, but he died before the doctor arrived at the farm. The remains were buried at the stone church on the Driftwood, Friday morning. The bereaved parents and family have the tenderest sympathy of everyone in this terrible sorrow.
