Birth: 1872, Netherlands
Death: Feb. 16, 1957
Sacramento County
California, USA

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 20th for a well know former Alton resident, Gerrit Henry Aalders, 84, who died February 16th at a nursing home in Sacramento, California.

Arriving with their father's body at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday were Mr. Aalders's children, Mr. and Mrs. Will Aalders and Dick Aalders of North Sacramento, California and Grace, Mrs. Leslie Grant of Arlington, Oregon.

Rev. Sandee was in charge of the services at the First Reformed Church here, previous services having been held Monday in Sacramento at a funeral home. Pallbearers were Gerrit Geurink, Will Cambier, Richard Clinton Cambier, Tom Kool and Fred Eason.

Surviving besides the children are four grandchildren. Mrs. Aalders died in August, 1946. Mr. Aalders was born in Holland and came to the U.S. at the age of 4 years with his parents. He attended school in Alton and was married here to Elizabeth Marie Scholten. The couple lived on a farm for several years before moving to Alton. Mr. Aalders was a cream hauler for the local creamery for a few years before becoming janitor of the Public School, where he served faithfully for 34 years in this capacity. He was also a gardener for many years for Mr. and Mrs. Walter Slagle.

Before going to Arlington, Oregon last summer, Mr. Aalders was in charge for several years of his grandson Dudley, who wished to finish high school here before joining his father in California. The latter is now attending junior college and was unable to leave his studies to come for the service here. The others remained for a day after the funeral and were the guests of relatives here. Present from Tulsa, Oklahoma was a nephew, Bob De Boer, formerly of Hull, who flew his own plane to Iowa for the services. Many relatives and friends came from neighboring towns to honor the memory of a good man, devoted to his family and friends.
