Samuel William McCoy
Birth: Dec. 11, 1923
Ontario, Canada
Death: May 7, 2009
Ontario, Canada

McCOY - Samuel ("Sam") William, 85, in London, Ontario on 7 May 2009. Born in south London on 11 December 1923, he was the eldest son of William Andrew McCoy and Lillian May Davis. Sam will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Julie and son-in-law Keith Milton (Victoria), brother Bill (London), and many nephews and nieces. In 2003 he was predeceased by his wife Hazel Elizabeth (nee Bell), whom he adored.

Sam attended Wortley Road School and later attended H.B. Beal Secondary School. He joined the RCAF in 1942, and served 2 1/2 years overseas, stationed at RAF bases in Lincolnshire, Warwickshire, and the Shetland Islands. When the war ended, Sam attended the University of Western Ontario, attaining his accounting degree. He moved to Niagara Falls, where he met his future wife Hazel, a schoolteacher, at square-dancing classes. They were married on August 11, 1956, and then moved to St. Catharines where they bought their first home. Their daughter Julie was born in 1960. The family then moved to Ottawa (Nepean) in 1966, where Sam worked first at an income tax position, then at the Public Service Alliance of Canada. Upon retiring, Sam moved back to London, and spent his last years peacefully at Masonville Manor.

Sam will be remembered for his wry sense of humour, fondness for travel (he visited the UK, Europe and the Middle East), passion for classical music and early jazz, and appreciation of international cuisine. A quietly affectionate father, he will be especially missed by his daughter and close family.

Sam's family would like to thank the staff at Masonville Manor, especially John Groom and Jeff Rikley, for their care and kindness. For those who desire, donations in memory of Sam may be made to Victoria Hospice Foundation (his favourite charity), Canadian Cancer Society, or the charity of your choice.

Sam was predeceased by his brothers Harry Everett (1927-1982) and Ronald Charles or "Ronnie" (1936-1945).
