Roy Lee Caver, 83, Florence, died Sunday, March 15, at his home after an extended illness.
The funeral service will be Wednesday, 2 p.m. at the Jackson Heights Church of Christ with Brian Jarrett, Ronnie Pannell, and Willie Hamblen officiating. Burial will follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at Greenview Funeral Home today from 6-9 p.m. He will lie in state one hour before the service.
Mr. Caver's life was devoted to Christian service. He was a member of Jackson Heights Church of Christ where he served as an elder for 35 years. He had taught an adult Sunday school class since 1965. He participated in numerous mission efforts and led the visitation program. He had previously served as an elder at Westside Church of Christ, Sheffield, for seven years.
Mr. Caver was retired from Texaco Inc., after 36 years of service. He owned and operated Caver's Grocery in Tuscumbia from 1945 to 1952.
He was a much loved and respected husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lola Pounds Caver, Florence; daughters and sons-in-law, Dot and Ralph Bishop, Russellville, Betty and Willie Hamblen, Florence, Glenda and Ed Foust, Florence; grandchildren and spouses, Ralph Bishop Jr. and Betsy, Chris Bishop and Leta, Monica Ross and Greg, Ginger McGuire, Kevin Foust and Jeanne, Todd Foust and fiancee Rachel Bobo; great-grandchildren, Clayton Bishop, Olivia Bishop, Will Bishop, Erin Ross, Noah Bishop, Hannah Foust.
Pallbearers will be Ralph Bishop Jr., Chris Bishop, Kevin Foust, Todd Foust, Greg Ross and Russell Thorne. Honorary pallbearers will be elders and deacons of Jackson Heights Church of Christ, Dr. Felix Morris, and Dr. Tim Ashley.
In lie of flowers, memorails may be made to Mars Hill Bible School, International Bible College, and Hospice of the Shoals.
Greenview Funeral Home of Florence is directing.

Roy Lee Caver, 83, of Florence, Ala., died Sunday, March 15, 1998, at his home after an extended illness.

Mr. Caver was born in Prentiss County to Ed and Ella Caver and grew up here. He married Lola Pounds, daughter of the late Eldon and Nina Pounds and has many relatives in Booneville. He was a member of Jackson Heights Church of Christ where he served as an elder for 35 years. He had taught an adult Sunday School class since 1965. He participated in numerous mission efforts and led the visitation program. He had previously served as an elder at Westside Church of Christ, Sheffield, for seven years.
