Lena immigrated to the USA from Rotterdam, Germany via the ship W.A. Scholten with parents Jacob Ludwig Emil AHL (1837-1929)and Christina ZIMMERMAN (1852-1934), and siblings August (1877-1945), Fredrich (1879-1970) and Bertha (b. 1885) on Oct 18, 1886. The family became naturalized in 1895.
Lena moved to St. Louis, MO in the early 1900s where she married Peter VanRysel and raised two "adopted" children: Catherine Lewis VanRysel and Margaret VanRysel (the girls were actually foster children, and not related to each other).
Lena died on 4 Feb 1930, following surgery on 1 Feb 1930 for acute appendicitis.

VANRYSEL, LENA - Aged 54 years, of 3015 Lucas Avenue, entered into rest on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 3 a.m., beloved wife of Peter Vanrysel.
Funeral Thursday, Feb. 6 at 9 a.m. from William F Paschedag chapel, 2825 North Grand Boulevard, to Valhalla Cemetery.
