Dr. Acheson, 84, Minister, Dies
Monmouth—Dr. John Acheson, 84, Kirkwood, Mo., died at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Monmouth Hospital. He was a Presbyterian minister.
He was born Dec. 15, 1871, at Monmouth, a son of David Reed and Martha Nichols Acheson. He married Nellie Greening of Toledo, Ohio. Three years ago they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
He graduated from Monmouth College in 1896 and the Theological Seminary in 1902. He began his ministry as a United Presbyterian minister, serving for a long time in Princeville. He was later a chaplain in the YMCA service, serving on the USS Henderson.
Surviving are his widow of Kirkwood; two sons, David of Cleveland, Ohio and Robert of Western Springs, Ill.; one daughter, Mrs. Bryan Taylor of Farmington; six grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Harry Whisler of Washington, Iowa, Mrs. W. D. Rodgers, Mrs. Ralph McClanahan and Mrs. Marshall Moore, all of Monmouth.
Funeral services will be today at the Turnball funeral home with Dr. Joe Vandervoort officiating, assisted by Moderator Clerk Robert Means.
Burial will be Saturday afternoon in the Oak Mound Cemetery at Somonuak.
