Elijah J Hopkins Dead
Elijah J. Hopkins died at 4:30 o'clock this morning in St. Mary's Hospital. Mr. Hopkins recently contracted blood poisoning, and was ill in the hospital three days. The Funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the first Baptist Church. The Rev. James P. Thomas will conduct the service. The Odd Fellow Lodge, of which Mr. Hopkins was a Member, will take part in the service. Interment will be made in Maplewood Cemetery.
Elijah was born in Louisville, Kentucky, November 15, 1841. He enlisted in the Civil War in 1861 and served throughout the war. He married in the early 70s to Mary Ellen Vickery in Moberly, Missouri. In 1879 the Hopkins moved to Kansas, settling near Americus, and later came to Emporia. Mrs. Hopkins died about three years ago. Mr. Hopkins is survived by four sons. Emmett and John on Kansas City, and Frank and George of Topeka. He also leaves three Brothers.
