Deputy Sheriff Jeffrey Alexander was killed when his patrol car collided with another vehicle.
He was on patrol and traveling northwest on State Route 427 when he lost control of his patrol car and struck an oncoming car as he went around a curve in the road.
Deputy Alexander had served with the Chemung County Sheriff's Department for five years. He is survived by his parents and fiancée.

Alexander, Jeffrey T. Age 26, of Elmira, died unexpectedly Sunday, June 12, 2011, as a result of a motor vehicle accident while on duty as a Chemung County Sheriff's Deputy. Survived by his loving family, fiancee and best friend, Lindsey Holden; stepson and buddy, Tyler; proud parents, Pat & Ken Alexander, Elmira; sister and birthday partner, Cheryl (Charlie) Williams, Yonkers, NY; brother and best man, Brian Alexander, Elmira; dear grandmother, Joyce Troccia, Elmira; uncles, Hal Troccia, Michael (Nicole) Troccia, John (Susie) Alexander, Donald Alexander; aunt, Sue Troccia; cousins, Tara Holland, Jennifer Troccia, Derek Cornish, Jason Alexander, Derrick Alexander; fiancee's parents, Kim & Randy Holden and her brother Tom; many close friends and his family of fellow officers of the Chemung County Sheriff's office. Predeceased by grandfather, Harold Troccia; grandparents, Donald & Norma Alexander. Jeffrey was proud to serve as a Chemung County Deputy Sheriff. He was a member of the Deputy Sheriff's Association and NYSUPA. He was a graduate of EFA Class of 2002, received his criminal justice degree from Corning Community College and also graduated from Broome County Law Enforcement Academy. Jeffrey loved golfing, hunting, football, swimming, movies, playing his guitar, history, family genealogy, home improvements and overall enjoyed life, but nothing more than spending time with his family, especially Lindsey, Tyler, Cheryl, Charlie, Brian, Mom and Dad. He was loved by everyone that knew him and his smile and humor will be forever missed. Those wishing may make a donation in Jeffrey's memory to an education trust fund for Tyler or a scholarship fund at EFA (envelopes available at the Funeral Home). Family will receive relatives and friends at the Kalec Funeral Home, Wednesday, June 15, from 1-4 pm and 6-9 p.m. A prayer service there Thursday, June 16, at 10 a.m. followed by his Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick's Church at 11 a.m. Burial to follow in Sts. Peter and Paul's Cemetery.
