Sgt. Baglien first joined Company L of the First North Dakota Infantry and saw service with his company on the Mexican Border. In February of 1941 he re-enlisted in the 9205th Technical Service Unit of the United States Army. He was awarded the Mexican Border Service medal and the World War II Victory medal.

Interesting Note:

Sgt. Baglien was the Father of Radioman 3rd Class Jerome Warren Baglien, United States Navy. Jerome W. was on the USS Sculpin (SS-191) when it was sunk by the Japanese Destroyer Yamagumo after a surface engagement, near Truk. Jerome W. was rescued by the Destroyer and was being transported by the Japanese aboard the "Hell Ship" Chuyo, leaving from Truk to Japan. It was sunk by the USS Sailfish on December 3, 1943. Jerome W. Baglien was among those killed. He was awarded the Purple Heart medal (posthumously), and the Prisoner of War Medal. The USS Sculpin was awarded 8 battle stars for service in World War II along with the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation.
