Woodrow Allen was the son of Bert and Caroline Allen He married Ferne Elizabeth Benson in February of 1941 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
Ferne Elizabeth Benson was the daughter of Edward William Benson and Olive Luzell Hake. Her maternal grandparents were Edmund Arthur Hake and Alice E. Gray Hake.
Ferne was born on 26 July 1921 in Smokey Hollow Township, Aitkin County, Minnesota. She died on 29 July 1990 in Itasca County, Minnesota.
Woodrow Woody Allen, age 89 of Grand Rapids passed away on Monday, April 30, 2007 at the home of his niece in Blackberry Township.
Woody was born in 1918 to Bert and Caroline Allen in Orth, Minn. He was a graduate of Grand Rapids High School Class of 1937. Woody lived in the Grand Rapids area for most of his life except for the last 10 years, when he spent the winter months in Texas, Arizona and Alaska. Woody was employed by the Minnesota State School of Agriculture; the Lakeland Creamery and the Itasca Calvary Cemetery. He was very active in church work, Boy Scout activities and followed community athletic teams including softball, bowling and wrestling. Woody held the office of Governor of the Loyal Order of Moose, was Noble Grand of the Odd Fellows and an officer in the Senior Golden Ks. Woody was united in marriage to Ferne Benson in 1941 in Grand Rapids.
Preceding him in death was his wife of 50 years, Ferne; infant son Robert; his parents; three sisters, Jessie Allen, Ruby Tinquist and Doris Ritter; one brother, Bernard Allen.
He is survived by three daughters, Mary Jeanne (Sue Eckfeldt) Allen of St. Paul, Marlene Rae (Myha Allen) Allen of Spokane, Wash., Bobbie Lu (Chip Beal) Allen-Beal of Superior, Wis.; four sons, Richard Leigh (Barb) Allen of Grand Rapids, Jerry Bruce (Karen) Allen of Medical Lake, Wash., David Brian (Jolene) Allen of Odessa, Wash., Mark William (Glenda) Allen of Odessa, Wash.; one brother, Lloyd Allen of Great Falls, Mont.; very special friend, Beatrice "Beatie" Steinhart; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services: A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, May 6 at 3 p.m. at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids. Rev. George Gilbertson will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Smokey Hollow Township, Cass County. Arrangements by Rowe Funeral Home of Grand Rapids.
