Anchorage resident Cynthia Ann "Cindy" Bales, 48, died Sept. 10, 2006, at Providence Alaska Medical Center, surrounded by her family. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Episcopal Church. Flowers are welcome. Interment will be afterward at Fort Richardson National Cemetery. Mrs. Bales was born June 8, 1958, in Cincinnati to Charles and Patricia Neilson. She came to Alaska with her family in 1959, first to Kotzebue, then settling in Anchorage in 1967. She attended Inlet View Elementary School, Central Junior High and West Anchorage High, where she graduated in 1976. In 1979, she married Rodney Bales in Anchorage. She held positions with several insurance companies until she became a pharmacy technician, a profession she held for many years. Most recently, she worked at Professional Infusion Pharmacy and Geneva Woods Heath Care Services. Her family wrote: "She loved animals, particularly her dog, Bayley, and her cat, Elvis. Cindy and Bayley were dedicated walking companions. She enjoyed reading, walking and spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews. "Cindy will be remembered as a sweet and kind person by all who knew her and she will be greatly missed by those closest to her, especially her true love and best friend, Rodney. At Professional Infusion Pharmacy, she held a special place in the hearts of co-workers and clientele alike." Mrs. Bales is survived by her husband of 27 years, Rodney Bales; mother, Patricia Neilson; mother-in-law, Lois Wright-Swank of Mabank, Texas; stepfather, Daniel Mariniello of East Aurora, N.Y.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Steve and Lori Neilson of Anchorage, Bruce and Dusty Neilson of Clam Gulch, and Michael and Jamie Neilson of Seattle; sister and brother-in-law, Christel and Rob Jones of Anchorage; nieces and nephews, Scott and Jocelyn Jelich, John, Kacie and Collin Neilson, and Alison and Laura Jones, all of Anchorage, Libby Spangler of Seattle; uncles and aunts, Tom and Vicki Packer of Anchorage, and Ron and Joy Packer of Cincinnati; and cousins, Michelle Myers, Heather Horton and David Packer of Anchorage. Mrs. Bales was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Charles Neilson. Arrangements are with Kehl's Forest Lawn Mortuary.
