He had fully completed all the projected assignments that the Lord asked of him, first being the love of the Lord Jesus, then the deepest appreciation of the life and all that he was given; to love and appreciate his life with Virginia; to love and raise Annette and Mike in the shadow of God's grace and to bestow that love to his grandchildren; to live and enjoy each breath he was given; service to his country and as a Southern Baptist Minister of thirty-eight years.
He is survived by his wife of sixty and one-half years, Virginia Oakley Atkinson; two children, Annette Haynes and her husband Steve of Maumelle; a son, Charles Michael Atkinson and his wife Sheila of Arkadelphia; grandchildren, Charles Christian Shuffield, Christina Michelle Loudermill, Michelle Leigh Atkinson DeJanes, Charles Matthew Atkinson, Rachael Annette Haynes Burdett, Benjamin Steven Haynes, Amanda Caroline Atkinson, Oakley Michael Atkinson; three great-grandchildren, Tayler Michelle Loudermill, Ethan Michael DeJanes and Charles Liam Shuffield; and two brothers, Cecil Ray Atkinson and his wife Betty and Rev. Donald M. Atkinson and his wife Mary and a host of nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 3, 2004 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Mark Howell and Rev. Donald Atkinson and Rev. Ray Williams officiating. Interment will be in Leek Cemetery at Star City. Arrangements are by Roller-Chenal Funeral Home (224-8300).
