Cohn A. Baker, age 37, Joplin, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2009 at St. John's Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness.
Cohn was born January 30, 1972 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, son of Larry Johnson and Mary Hancock Johnson.
He graduated from high school and had worked at Tarp's-R-Us in Joplin. He helped coach youth in several sports in the Joplin area through the YMCA, Boys Club, and at Four Seasons for several years.
Survivors include his parents, Larry and Mary Johnson of Joplin; a son, D-Andre Baker of Joplin, brother, David D. "Bubby" Baker of Joplin; step-sister, Cristen Baker of Lincoln, Arkansas; adoptive parents, David G. and Marilyn Baker of Bella Vista, Arkansas; grandparents, Theodore Johnson of Joplin, Joe Ray Turner of Joplin, special friend and companion, Ann; special nieces, Kiytierra and Onnika; step-children, Salome, Deorica, Max, Mia, Brianna, Danae, and Paxton; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Ella Rae Johnson, Josie Johnson, Mary F. Turner, Everett Hancock, and a sister, Jammia A. Baker.
Cohn's mother, Mary Baker, had been one of my Beauty Shop clients for years. We closed our shop in 2003 and they had been our customers since Jammia was around 4 years old. Cohn's mother Mary is such a precious individual who didn't deserve to go through this yet again. And Larry was a great guy, couldn't be a better guy in Joplin... not fair to lose so much-- Sarah Capps, Designs of Distinction
