Went to schools in Salt Lake City, Utah and Ely, Nevada. Got to and from school in Ely by riding the ore train for the Kenticot Copper Co., where his father worked as a carpenter. In High School he was a member of the Glee Club, basketball and baseball teams. Studied sheet metal and carpentry trades. Moved to Bishop with family (sometime between 1926 & 1929) and to Merced in 1937. He opened his first accounting firm in 1943. He belonged to many local service clubs including Elks, Yosemite Lodge No. 99 F. & A.M. Merced, Scottish Rite Bodies San Jose, and was a charter member of Tehran Temple No. 1531 AAON Mystic Shrine Fresno. He was also a member and clerk of Merced City Schools Board, was a president of Yosemite Chapter of Society of California Accountants and treasurer of the Republican Central Committee.
